99-00 dashboard question.

would the 99-00 dashboard fit on the 96-98 civic without a problem? i'm thinkin about switching the control module, from the sliders to twist knobs and i know that the wiring is different which requires the 99-00 dash.

I've seen it done. You don't need the whole dash but if you found one it will fit. All you need is the climate control. Re-wiring is a bitch though. Goodluck

I think you need a new fan assembly (that black box sitting against the firewall on the passenger side). I have the helms manual, and it shows the difference between the 98 and 99's. the 98 has that cable that runs to the box. I believe all the electronics are on the box. but for 99, i think some of the electronics are in the controls on teh dash. I think if you switched out the fan assembly as well as the dash, it would be rather simple.

Thumbs up yeah

yeah I wanted to do the same thing,.... there is a place down in S.D. that handles imports, but I need to go check out some prices. Would this be cheep, or can I expect to pay $$$. Either way I want to do it...
Also I heard that if you ever removed the factory radio, and installed a new head unit, you would loose your factory keyless entry,..... Are there ways around that???????

That white civic looks phuckin Nice !!!!!!!!!! :bandit:

I think you could pick the parts up for the conversion cheap at a junkyard. Just get the dash assembly and the fan unit (better ask someone at a honda dealership or something to see if there's anything else you'll need). As for the keyless entry, i'm assuming you have factory keyless entry, and not keyless entry from an alarm? You are correct about removing the radio. On civic's with factory keyless, its built into the radio for some reason, so if you toss the radio, you lose keyless entry. But, if you're gonna add a stereo to your car, you might as well get a good alarm with keyless entry, and your problem will be solved. I got an alarm before ANY upgrades i did to my car. can never be too careful. BTW, thanx for the compliment on my car!

whiteracer, have you checked under your dash to see if the original radio is stuffed back there? I was once told that they do that in order to keep the stock keyless entry, because there is a separate plug for the keyless that plugs into the radio, separate from the speaker wires. so technically, you can have your stock radio hooked up to the keyless and the new radio hooked up to the speakers. robutek, i'm not one to speak from experience on this, but it sounds like you should have everything.

oh, makes sense. I'll check tomorrow. Where would it be, behind the dash in the open part between the two foot rest areas? Anyways, thanks.
