Unusual happening

Today, my mother somehow got out 01 maxima stuck perpendicular to the length of the driveway in show. The car won't go foward, or back. The tranmission is stuck in neutral, it won't shift into drive or reverse and the engine won't start. She said she didn't continue to spin the wheels in the snow but the front left tire is dug into the dirt under the snow pretty bad. This is some kind of failsafe, right? I dont think she could have blown the tranny.

Some women are really bad drivers.

1 - I'm guessing you cannot take the keys out from the ignition until the transmission lever is in Park....

2 - regardless of the transmisson being blown or not the engine should start in Neutral as well in Park, so does it try to turn over ? maybe some snow got to the starter....?

I cannot comment on anything else since I can't see the car, there can be so many things and I'm sure it is something minor that gets overlooked.

My advice is to let the car cool down (rest) and take a good look at it in the daytime. try to get rid of the surrounding snow and under the car as much as possible.

We were able to get the car out. Innitally, the engine wouldn't turn over, as it wasn't in park. My dad was able to start the engine when the tranny was in neutral, so he was able to move the car, after removing some snow.

Thanks!

My dad went a little far and told her to go to a driving school. He said he would pay for it. She was quite offended.

I have to agree with you. Cause my mom did another number on teh car. This time she didn't get caught in the snow, but she put a 8 byt 12 inch scratch on the passenger side front door while trying the get into the garage. Dad was pissed, naturally, I think she'll be going to driving lessons for sure.
