Undercoating Question
I've recently purchased a 2002 Xterra, and my dealer tried to sell me undercoating. Per the Consumer Reports advice, I declined.
I checked with Ziebart; they want $350 US to undercoat it. Is the factory rustproofing (or whatever the Nissan factory puts on) adequate for Western New York State (read: Winter=salt) driving??? I formerly had a Ford Explorer, dealer undercoated, and after 5 years, I had holes in the doors (and elsewhere). If that's the case with Nissans, I'll take my chances. ...Thankyouverymuch!... |

I hear pros and cons about undercoating (no real concensus). Dealers tend to use it to pad more profit into your sale. If you're going to do it, the only good time is when the truck is brand new and clean.
BTW, Nissan stopped making Durasteel for the 2002's (zinc coated steel that's more rust resistant). I guess we'll see what impact that has compared to the earlier models. |
