Exclamation Z4 Design Observations

Maybe I'm a little more visually sensitive than most, as a commercial photographer, but the rear view of the Z4 seems ruined by the brightness of the roll bars. If they were black, the stunning design of the body would be the primary focus from that angle. As it is, they grab the eye and fight against the overall aesthetics.

Also, will a wood dash be available?

What about M versions? I haven't read anything about them.

Re: Rollbars

I do agree that the rollbars should be offered in black, some people do prefer that, like the ones in the Z3.
As far as the M versions go, yes, they will be available later next year.

The rollbars should be available in black, but keep in mind that BMW has not released photos of every color option on the Z4. My local rep is telling me that they don't even have the official color list yet which also involves TRIM colors for things like the rollbars. (They've got my deposit already and I still don't know what colors I can choose from!)

There is a hint that different color trim will be available for certain color models - maybe a black rollbar for black exterior? No mention of wood trim though, although I've not asked about it since I don't care for it myself.

As for the M series Z4, it is supposed to be in development for a Summer 2003 release. No work on the upgrades that will be involved, other than "suspension and bigger engine". Rumor is that it will have at least the 342HP 3.2L that is in the 2002 Z3... but I'm hoping for more - after all the Z4 M Roadster should be FASTER than the Z3 M Roadster, right?!

I'll post more when I get the details... who knows, maybe a black rollbar on black models will appear after all!

Thumbs up Z4 DEPOSIT

I SENT MY DEPOSIT YESTERDAY AND THE DEALER SAID THERE WOULD'T BE MUCH PRICE CHANGE. THE OPTIONS LIKE DDC AND CARVER SOUND MAY UP THE PRICE. I SURE HOPE THEY HAVE A HANDS FREE PHONE OPTION AS THE POLICE ARE GETTING NASTY ABOUT DRIVING AND TALKING. HOW ABOUT A WINDSCREEN OPTION? DOES ANYONE HAVE ANY IDEAS ON IT?
THE WAY I HAVE HEARD IT THEY ARE GOING TO STOCK DEALERS TO STOP GOUGING. MY DEALER WILL NOT GO OVER STICKER EVEN ON A M3 OR M5. NICE PEOPLE.
I GAVE MY DEPOSIT EVEN THOUGH MY LEASE ISN"T UP UNTIL MARCH. I JUST DON'T WANT TO TAKE ANY CHANCES. SURE HOPE THIS THING GOES IN THE SNOW,I HAVE 16" SNOW TIRES FOR MY 540 SPORT. THE DEALER SAID YOU CAN'T USE 17". THEY SHOULD WORK ON THE Z4.
THANKS,
LANNY

Roll Bars

I think that the metallic rollbars on the Z4 would look really cool actually. I would hazard a guess from looking at the pictures that it is a softer metallic rather than a chrome. I agree with you all that if it were a shiny metal it would look horrible, however, I believe that if it were more of a dull metal, that would look outstanding, specifically in black.

With regards to the wood trim, I would be suprised if the Z4 came with a wood dash. I don't think very many people ordered wood on the Z3 and BMW seems to be moving away from classic wood anyhow. Having the same metallic look to the interior as the rollbars would do a very nice job of bringing some of the exterior into the car; it'd look great.

Post Z4 Pricing

Z4 MSRP loaded except DVD navigation (this includes convenience, premium, sports package on a 3.0 6-speed) is around $47k... add DVD to bump up to $49k...

Dealer-added accessories are still not fully setup yet... windsreen is likely and a hardtop but my dealer has not given a definitive price list for those options yet.
