Porsche 917K Le Mans 1971 winner... finished pics!!! (15 : 56K beware!)
A little history about this car : it won the Le Mans 24 hrs race in 1971, with Marko-Van Lennep at the wheel, at an average speed of 222,304 km/hr! This record still stands, because in 1972 the maximum engine cubic capacity was reduced from 5000 cc to 3000 cc. And by the time the technique had caught up with the lacque of engine capacity, the organisers had built 2 large chicanes on the Hunadières straight where cars used to reach speeds up to 400 Km/hr! Those speeds belong to history forever now...
Here are the pics :

Amazing work on a classic model. Lovely Martini colour scheme, simple but beautiful.
Anyone would be proud to have this one in his Le Mans collection. |

Sennake, I had been following your progress thread with great interest and must say the final result is absolutely stunning. It is awesome to see a classic kit like this so well built.
I just recently got my hands on a kit of the red Salzburg car that won in 1970 and hope I may be able to get hold of a Gulf blue version too. PM me FOTW if you want to know my source, don't want to go public before I've secured mine! P.S. I wonder why there are so few replies to this thread. So much more interesting than another ITR or Skyline. |

Anyway, I seem to be stuck in 1971 somehow, because after the 1971 Le Mans winner, my new project is the 1971 Tyrrell Ford of Jacky Stewart, in which he became world champion formula 1 for the second time... I'll start another thread about that one though. |

Don't let the number of replies hold you back to post about this. Altough I am more into modeling of F1-cars (looking forward to that Tyrrell
), any race car will get me interested. Nice work!

Yes, please don't let the lack of replies fool you, that is an outstanding model. Worthy of a Le Mans Musuem display piece. Great work!

Don't worry
As long as there will be 1 person replying to my threads I will keep on posting... When the day comes that NOBODY replies anymore, that day I will start asking myself questions

Looks awesome!:flash:
An interesting fact on the 917, early models were so evil that some Porsche employed racers refused to drive it. They had a massive amount of bodyflex and wasnt unheard of for a winscreen to crack because of it, and the engine was certainly interesting. It had 320hp@4000Rpm, in the next 300rpm, it gained another 300hp. Great fun in the wet......
