lamborghini joins the 4x4 bandwagon

"The hills are rumbling to the sound of mud-pluggers - and a new king could
be on the way! Lamborghini has designed a mighty 4x4 in response to
Porsche's new Cayenne and Mercedes' forthcoming GST.

Our spies report that at the centre of all the activity is Lambo's technical
partner, Audi, which is developing a new platform based on VW's potent
Touareg. Audi revealed its interest at this year's Detroit Motor Show with
the Pikes Peak, a seven-seater concept with impressive on and off-road
ability. It's this model, penned by design chief Walter de'Silva, that will
influence the Lambo, due in 2006.

Insiders say the car will not be a recreation of the mighty LM002, a
limited-edition 450bhp V12 built between 1986 and 1993. Instead, it will
offer a mix of tarmac performance and off-road versatility. Engines could
include the recently revealed V10, which will debut this March in the
Gallardo, mated to a six-speed semi-auto box. The 4x4 system is likely to be
developed from VW's Touareg."

Didn't they have a off-roader in the eighties. I forget what it's called. I'll post back. Time to go get the big Lambo book I got awhile back... :frog:

Not to bad actually. Cept' they were increably ugly...

oh god...what is the world coming to..

althought coming from lamborghini is not really a shock because they made tractors and everything before they made cars..

but if ferrari and aston martin or jaguar or any of those other brands start making them..im gonna go jump off the edge of the earth

As I wipe the vomet from my face I will reply to Menu: I think itis great to see these manufacturers like Porsche and Lambo coming out with SUVs. I am sick of the Escalades and TrailBlazers and Mountaineers etc. I wouldn't mind the manufacturers you meantioned coming out with at least a concept of an SUV. Its good to see "different" ideas from different manufacturers.

Dear lord, I can't stop thinking that hideous thing is a Lamborghini... Can I call it "cool"... No, never mind, it is just too ugly...

Is my history screwed up? But wasnt the LM002 designed to be used for miltary purposes? I read somewhere a long time ago that they were designed by spec for some weathly oil barron in some middle east country to help support his troops. I even saw a picture of one with a very large machine gun attached to the back end.

it was called the cheetah and ment for the us military....but i think the main issue was cost and delivery for parts and it was having problems.....so they made it sor the street and changed the name to LM....think 80% of this is true b/c i just read over a couple webpages
