2018 F150 $3300 rear differential rebuild?
Hello. My f150 recently broke down without any real strain on the vehicle. I thought it might have been tampered with.
Ford service where it was towed wants $3300 for a rear differential rebuild. They say it was not vandalism so my insurance won't help. Yet it seems impossible for this to happen naturally with no strain on the vehicle. What's going on here? |

Get a second opinion and quote from a non-dealer shop.

Thanks for the response. Id have liked to but that would be more towing the vehicle and longer wait to handle it.
The drive totally decoupled or blew up so it's not drivable. There was no warning sounds like whining for a while like I've heard of so just curious what people might think. Obviously I'm not a mechanic. |

No need to tow it yet. First talk with another shop, they might give you an idea of the cost without looking at it. Such as for a complete rebuild or alternately installing a used one from a junkyard. Once you know the cost, you can then decide if it's worth towing out of the dealer's lot or not.
