Which SUV should I buy?
I'm considering buying a new SUV. I seek the following features:
* Made in the USA * Two wheel drive (preferably the rear wheels) * Naturally aspirated gasoline engine (non turbo) * Traditional tires (not run-flat) * Small or Mid-size (not large) This vehicle will not be driven many miles so gas mileage is not critical. I fully realize that there may not be any SUV offered today which meets ALL of my desired criteria. Please let me know if I should place this post in a different sub-forum. Thanks for any guidance and recommendations. |

Are you able to avail yourself of the following publications:
- Consumer Reports - Consumer Guide - Car & Driver - Motortrend ? You'll have all your answers there, and will be armed with enough info to schedule test drives of a few SUV/crossovers at the dealers.

Re: Which SUV should I buy?
Finding a mid-size SUV with those specs is getting harder in 2025, but the Jeep Grand Cherokee is probably your best bet since it's built in Detroit and still offers that non-turbo V6 in rear-wheel drive. Most others have gone to small turbo engines or AWD, so definitely look at the Grand Cherokee or even a Dodge Durango if you don't mind it being slightly on the bigger side of mid-size.
If you're worried about all the new tech acting up since you won't be driving it much, I always keep a YOUCANIC scanner in my glovebox, it’s great for checking battery health or clearing random sensor codes that pop up when a car sits for too long. |
