CJ5,CJ6,CJ7 don't have padded dashboard?

I have been watching "Flipper" TV show that ran from 1995 to 2000. There is a Jeep CJ7 (long wheelbase version of CJ5. The Jeep doesn't have padded dashboard and have side marker lights. I thought that vehicles are required to have padded dashboards but step-in vans don't have padded dashboards. Why?

Re: CJ5,CJ6,CJ7 don't have padded dashboard?

My '48 CJ2A doesn't have a padded dash, either. UPS package trucks don't have a padded dash. Everything from the old F-4 t0 the more current F-22 doesn't have a padded I/P, and they have a LOT more kinetic potential than a ground vehicle.

Seat belts eliminate the need for such frivolity.

Steel simplicity on earliest models.
