Porsche 911 996 Turbo
Starting a new project and yes, I'm aware my RS is not yet finished. But it had its 2nd clear coat that needs to cure.
This time it's the Tamiya Porsche Carrera to which I'll be applying a transkit from ScaleStars to turn it into a 996 Turbo. ![]() ![]() ![]() I'd started this kit a long time ago with the intention to create the turbo, but using put to sculpt the body work is not my cup of tea. I've got great respect for those who can. Luckily this transkit will make my life easier. Here some pictures of my early attempt and the parts form the transkit. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() To check the fitment of the parts, I've cut away the side panel and put the side body panel in place. ![]() Knowing myself, this will also be a project that will take time, but it allows me to switch between projects. |

Great start. That is a very nice transkit; from a company I have not heard of before.

https://scale-stars.com/ I cut away the remaining body work panels and fitted the right side as well. Currently I'm dry-fitting the parts to see if some need some extra work. All in all I'm quite pleased with the parts. I can at least note there are no bubbles what so ever in the casted parts. ![]()

Re: Porsche 911 996 Turbo
I think I'd skip the grills in the kit; they look a little heavy.
I destroyed more than one tamiya body trying to carve out and shape those intakes and as expected, by the time I figured I'd have another crack at it, someone's made a transkit.

Not yet... this one was temporarily shelved because I need to finish the Moby Dick. But I will continue on it, when I have more time.

Re: Porsche 911 996 Turbo
While waiting for some time to paint the 935, I've picked up this kit again.
Just some simple filling seams and sanding. Not a task I love particularly, but it has to be done at some point. So... a little bit of progress. ![]() ![]() I need to scribe some of the panellines and then it is ready for primer to spot any attention points. |

Re: Porsche 911 996 Turbo
The rear section was missing the panel line for the rear window. So I'm scribing that very carefully as the resin is quite soft.
![]() After this, it's time to scuff up the body and apply some printer to spot the remaining defects (if any )

Re: Porsche 911 996 Turbo
I gave the body a quick shot of white primer to spot defects. I've found a few panel lines that need attention, but overal it looks very good.

Re: Porsche 911 996 Turbo
After the primer I've reworked some of the defects. I've also installed the rear wing and the door handles.
The kit does have a small error, as both door handles show a key hole. That is not right, as only the driver side has one, so I filled the passenger side key hole. ![]() ![]() ![]() I deliberatly posed the rear wing in it's low position. I don't like it in the high position when the car is standing still.

Re: Porsche 911 996 Turbo
I've prepared the body in black followed by GT Silver
![]() ![]() Next up, the headlights in chrome, the exhaust tips in stainless and the bumper inserts in semi-gloss black. ![]() Quick view of how that all comes together ![]() With the body work mostly done, it was also time to prepare the interior parts. ![]() <nerd alert> ![]() The Turbo does not have the standard 4-spoke steering wheel, but the 3-spoke variant. Luckilly I had one in my bits box. |
