6L80 Transmission - flip the pill or replace internals
2011 GMC Sierra 1500 Denali 6.2 with 6L80 transmission
I've seen threads that discuss this for 2016-19 and have seen similar articles referencing the 2014 and up. Can't find anything on the 2011. I'm not aware of any changes in the 6L80 from 2011 to 2014 so seems like it would work but looking to see if anyone has done this on a 2011. My normal day to day transmission operating temps are 160-190 degrees depending on ambient temps but when pulling a 26′ camper (about 6,500 lbs) I’m always close to 200 even on relatively flat roads, this past weekend with ambient temps in the 70’s I hit 216 going through gradual rolling hills? I did a total fluid exchange and replaced the filter just prior to this past trip with no real difference. Vehicle is equipped with the additional factory transmission cooler mounted to the front of the radiator as part of the tow package. I've read that "flipping the pill" (turning one of the internal parts upside down ) allows a constant flow of fluid through the cooling system therefore resulting in cooler transmission temps closer to 150. Also similar results by replacing the internal parts with the “Sure Cool System Upgrade STL010”. Just looking to see if anyone has done this on their 2011 Sierra 1500 with success? Thanks in advance |
