Scion XA Alternator Bracket Engine Block Mount Bolt Broke Off
Basically, the alternator bracket bolt that is connected to the engine block broke in half. The screw broke in half, one half is inside the engine. Is there anything I can do?

Re: Scion XA Alternator Bracket Engine Block Mount Bolt Broke Off
Welcome to the forum!
Did you manage to get the alternator and the bracket out of the way? If so, and you have access to someone with a MIG welder, you could weld a nut onto the part of the bolt remaining in the block. The heat from welding would help break any corrosion or thread locking compound on the threads, and the nut gives you something to connect a wrench to. Another option would be to carefully drill a hole down the center of the broken bolt, preferably using left-hand drill bits. If the drill bit doesn't manage to spin the broken piece out, you can then use a bolt extractor in the drilled hole to spin the broken piece out. Be sure to follow the extractor directions though. If you manage to break an extractor off, there's very little chance of being able to drill that out. -Rod |
