Towing cars with all wheels on ground?

Coming home from visiting my sister's daughter and her husband who got married yesterday, and from "Star Trek Original Series Set Tour" nearby, I saw two RVs towing cars with all wheels on ground on highways. If the cars have automatic transmissions, they could be destroyed. If the cars have manual transmissions and they are not in neutral, the engines would be destroyed.

Re: Towing cars with all wheels on ground?

There are a handful of vehicles that are suitable for flat towing per their owner's manuals. Not many, but a few. The process sometimes involves pulling a fuse.

I'm not sure if you were asking a question or just making a statement though.

Re: Towing cars with all wheels on ground?

One car was a mid-sized SUV with AWD and other was new Jeep pickup truck. In 1950s, some automatic transmissions had oil pumps at both ends.

The Jeep pickup with manual transmission can be towed in neutral as long as the Tcase is also in neutral.

Automatic, not so much.
