2003 RAV4 automatic transmission failing when shifting to 2nd gear

Hi all,

I have an old RAV4 from 2003 with only 85K km which I thought would last another 100K km.
But suddenly the shifting to 2nd gear has started to be problematic.

Has anyone had this problem, or is it a known issue?
Is my car finished?

It's an automatic and it fails to properly shift to 2nd gear.
I understand I'm not going to find a solution on a forum, I just wanted to know if there was a known issue with automatic transmissions on old RAV4s, to decide if it's worth having it towed to an automatic transmission specialist or if it's over.
The car has had all the services done at a Toyota garage but now that same garage tells me on the phone that since it's 20 years old it's not worth the trouble, which kind of bothers me for a car that has only 85K km on it.

The cheapest would be drain & refill the tranny. See what happens.
