As with any cost savings advantages- and the fact that most owner's never check their tranny fluid level- the newer models now have a fill plug- much like a differential housing. So no more dipsticks- Look closely at top of tranny for a fill plug. I can't wait till they decide to do away with oil dipsticks.

This actually began with the BMW X3 back in the '90s. They equipped that model with a Hydramatic 4L40E, and eliminated the dipstick. A fill/check plug was provided in the bottom of the PAN, not the case, and oil was added through the pan with the ngine running on a lift or over a service pit. Quite handy, indeed, that German engineering.

They may have done that even earlier, but that was the first major brand automatic I recall seeing without a fill/dipstick tube. That doesn't count the Honda-Matic motor scooters from the '70s.

FWIW, BMW has used a lot of Hydramatic transmissions, along with Getrag and Zed-F. I guess they know a good thing when they see it.

on new toyota vehicles the transmission level plug has the fluid amount ,,runs the engine transmission temp at 114F then the level plug removes it and then the fluid will drip a bit ... if the fluid does not drip out , add the fluid ..vehicle must be level ... a PITA.. Toyota transmissions last over 200K miles ..
