Hello! I'm new to this forum and working on cars.

I'm studying to become a car mechanic, but due to covid, there were no practical lessons in my school. Learned only from books and photos, so i recently bought myself a broken down car as a learning tool.

Today i found this squashed part and i have no idea what it was/supposed to be. Can anyone please tell me?
