My thermostat died a week before the coldest temperatures hit. So we were already freezing, before the power outages started.
Thermostat dying doesn't seem like a big deal, but this house was equipped with a Lennox iComfort system, which required a specific, very expensive, very unavailable thermostat, because of proprietary equipment communication network.

Told the wife after driving to work this week. "I'm putting a new powertrain in my car, and I'm going to pay extra for transmission with LSD or install one in it myself."

I gave up on trying to talk her into letting me get a truck.

Some asshole failed to yield and made a left turn into me and a BMW yesterday evening. Crushed the X3, and took the front bumper off my civic.

Have had two highly modified cars come in to the shop this month. One Supra Turbo, and one ISF, both with a list of problems... stupid speed shops couldn't tell them what was wrong with their cars. First time I've ever had to diagnose any cars that have been worked on by the local tuners. Absolute garbage workmanship. And it's going to cost them a bunch of money, if they actually want the cars fixed correctly..... so glad I can do all my own work.

If I could leave the DFW, I would. Will consider leaving when my house is paid off, or I win the lotto.

That sounds awful. I've been trying to find a place to get my car Dyno'd but it's so hard to find a local shop that doesn't try to screw the local car scene. I would never take my car to a shop *shutter*
