How to test car stereo

I bought a 99 Honda Civic a few days ago, & 1 of the things I noticed on the way home was only half of the speakers were getting power to them, the 2 speakers in the rear window weren't working so when I got the car home I started to investigate but what I didn't notice was yet an even bigger problem when the sub/amp wires that were left bare in the trunk made contact & shorted out the entire stereo! I've replaced the fuse & still no response! It's already become evident that who ever installed this stereo didn't know what they were doing! My question is how can I do a diagnostic test to see if my stereo is fried or not?

Re: How to test car stereo

A bench test could easily be done. Aftermarket stereo wiring is universal in colors. Yellow constant 12V, red accessory 12V, black ground. From there you could test each speaker output one at a time. If you get sound from each output then the unit is fine. If you don't, well then you found your issue.
