Getting into it

Howdy everyone. A brief introduction as I am brand new to this forum. I'm a 19 y/o college student born and raised in NJ. I have an above-average knowledge of cars but not so much on the mechanical side.

I've been saving up money for sometime now and I want to buy my own car. I'm a huge sucker for classic sports cars from the 70s/80s. Recently I've been looking at the Datsun 240z/280z. I love the body style and think it's a great car. Does anybody with experience have any advice when searching, buying this car? Is it a good day to day or mainly just for collectors, is there anything I should look out for in general, etc... Any advice with older cars in general is appreciated. Thanks!
