Awesome build, color turned out great. Should be a factory option.

Re: Tamiya 1/12 Yamaha YZF-R1M
Nicely done Baracca.
Is it just me or are the tires mounted backwards???? Look at the tire sipes???? With their current mountings the tires as they rotate will squish "move" the water to the center of the tires causing aqua-planning. My eyes say the tires are 180 degrees out - a minor issue but an important detail to consider when you are building a Bike with tread tires and not slicks where it doesn't matter which way the tires are mounted. Re: Tamiya 1/12 Yamaha YZF-R1M
Front tire is mounted OK, look at the pictures of real bike and in Tamiya instruction sheet. Rear tire seems to be mounted backwards

Great build Baracca, as usually. I really enjoy all your builds. Stunning models and beautiful photos - that is a killer combination. I wish my models would look like yours

Just look at the tire sipes - look at how the tire rotates from the left it is counter-clockwise and then look at the sipes ?? - the outside touches first and then pushes the water towards the center of the tires as it rotates forward. Which would cause the tires to ride on a film of water aka Hydroplaning or Aquaplaning for those of you on the other side of the pond. The tires are most definitely mounted backwards. I raced AMA Superbike nationals in the USA from 1995-1998 when I was paralyzed in a motorcycle vs automobile accident. When I used the old Dunlop D-365 Intermediate race rain tire we used to mount the tire either way for dry races to use up all of the tire - in wet races the tire MUST be mounted correctly for the water to be squished out from the center of the tire or you are guaranteed to crash. Even some slicks are dedicated to the mounting direction. For example back in 1995 at Daytona the tires had a harder compound on the left side of the tire than the right side because of all the "high speed" left turns you make there. The right side was much softer of a compound than the left because there are only 5 right hand turns at Daytona and they are relatively slow in comparison to the left turns on the super fast track. Therefore the left side would have overheated if it was the same compound as the right side of the tire, and conversely the right side would have been too hard if it was the same compound as the left side of the tire. Obviously on a model you cannot see the difference with a slick, but in real life dual compound slicks also need to be mounted the correct way to keep the rubber side down. This was the beginning of the dual compound tires in motorcycle racing back in the day when the USA had the worlds premiere National racing series - which in my opinion is now British Superbikes. Has anyone on the forum followed the British Superbike Championship??? Some awesome bike racing in that country. I stand by my original statement - "the tires are mounted backwards" front and rear. which really is no big deal and Baracca can easily correct that. He still did a great job on the build. When I receive my R1-M next week I will check the picture on the box to see if they got it wrong there too. Cheers John |
