Ducati 916
Here I am with my newest project. The mighty Ducati 916. One of my favorit bikes all time. As a young child I had posters above my bed and dreamed all day about this bike.
I have now 3 of them, unlucky for me not in 1:1 scale but all 1/12 Tamiya kits ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() First I started to collect a few better looking bolts for the fairings. I removed the plastic ones and already drilled holes for the new bolts. I also primered them and painted in Ferrari Rosso Corso. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Kris.

Re: Ducati 916
A new update:
I painted the engineblock in Alclad Dull Aluminium. I painted the engine components in a mix of green/grey to match the real color. ![]() ![]() ![]() The swingarm is painted metallic grey. The shock components are painted yellow and silver with clear orange on top. ![]() ![]() A few Ducati's at Google showed me a shiny bronze frame, but some have a matt bronze frame and wheels. I painted the frame and wheels with Zero Frame Bronze for Ducati. I liked the matt look of it, so I'll keep it like that. ![]() ![]() And all together: ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Kris.

Re: Ducati 916
Yes I don't know why they paint an engine in green. The Senna edition is metallic grey which is much nicer I think.
Ok, a new update. I painted the fairings and clearcoated them. Unfortunately one of the fairings felt on the ground and got some dust in the wet clearcoat. I will polish this part till all the dust is gone. I also did some carbon work on a few parts. ![]() ![]() After this I started to paint the exhaust. First I sprayed everything in gloss black. Then I added the carbon decals on the mufflers. I clearcoated them and masked them off to paint the chrome. Then I made a mix of Titanium gold, copper and pale gold from Alclad to paint the exhaustpipes. I think they look pretty good. ![]() ![]() ![]() I also made a start on the frontfork. A lot of masking was done. First I painted them titanium gold and the lower part in a metallic brown. Then i clearcoated the parts. After that I painted the brake calipers in Pale gold. I drilled out the brake discs and painted them gold and polished aluminium. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Kris.

Re: Ducati 916
First of all, I just bought a new camera so I struggled a bit on taking photos...
Allright, the ducati received his exhausts and a few other small parts. I also build the frontfork and mounted it on the bike. It's now a bike! ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Kris.

Re: Ducati 916
I polished the fallen fairing and did the last assembly on the left over parts.
And it's now completed ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() This kit is a very nice kit, and builds just perfect. I'm in love with this model, and I finally have a scale model version in my display cabinet. I only added carbon decals and rivets for the fairings. Nothing more. I think I have proved that not every model needs expensive detailsets. Kris.

Re: Ducati 916
Very nicely done Iceracer
I agree this came out very nicely for not having a super detail kit added to it. The pictures are good too - did you do a WIP for the Panigale in the pictures? Cheers John |
