Re: Tamiya Ferrari F40, not for the purists
did you use epoxy or superglue to attach the magnets? and what kind of magnets did you use?

Re: Tamiya Ferrari F40, not for the purists
Awesome Build! Love what your doing! I read on here years ago after completing the F40 Comptizone & having the rear hatch fit problem. From what I remember he said if you trim off the pins that connect the upper body to the chassis rear wheel arches. This allows the body to relax when you attach. Mine was a pretty good fit during all my test fits during assembly, but at the time of final assembly it wasnt.
Good luck with your build!

I use CA glue and the magnets are neodymium. I just brought them locally. |

Tamiya Ferrari F40, not for the purists
Quote:
Thanks Ash 😊I decided to keep the pins as it helps locate the vents and wheel arches. I think the magnets have greatly helped with the alignment of the hatch. I have now added 2 more sets of magnets and it has the hatch sitting pretty good. I was also planning to put some guide plates on the rear of the magnets didn't work, but I am happy wit the result. ![]() ![]() I also adjusted the rear suspension as I was not happy with the reverse rake. But now I have a large gap between the wheel and arch. Time to get the putty out 😂🔪 Also cut out the vents and added styrene. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]()

Work continues.
Decided the rear wheel to arch gap was too much and was not keen to fill that much with putty. So now have gone with 19" TE37s. ![]() ![]() Then I gave the wheels some concave by heating in boiling water for 5 mins and then pushing the Centre with a rod. ![]() This is the new rear wheel compared. I have the rear wheels 2mm offset and the front 1mm. Before and after comparison. Top before. ![]() Then the first coat of primer and minor flaws corrected. Surprisingly the rear hatch needs no extra filling or sanding. ![]() ![]() ![]() Thanks for looking |

Looking good, great idea with boiling the wheels, might have to give that a go!

Thanks Ash, yeah I've been meaning to do this for a long time. Be careful and take your time as I broke one wheel by pushing too hard and the wheel wasn't warm enough. Easy to glue back though. |

While the primer gasses out, works has started on the engine.
Spark plugs drilled out with 0.5mm drill ![]() TDR 3D printed turbos mocked up for headers. ![]() Original intercoolers will be joined together and modified to be dual pipe in and single out. ![]() R26B engine pinned for intake and exhaust. ![]() Extractors made from 2.0mm styrene bent by heating with butane lighter. ![]() ![]() Might re do the right side extractor to make them equal length to the left side. |

Re: Tamiya Ferrari F40, not for the purists
Looking good! Are you going to follow the original exhaust setup of the F40 with the exhausts either side of the external wastegate screamer pipe?

Re: Tamiya Ferrari F40, not for the purists
Looking good! Love the exhausts! That Quad Rotor looks like resin, whered you get it from? I only ask as Ive got Eightyones Quad Rotor which does not look that good, they literally just molded 2 13Bs together & there not even straight! theres a .7mm gap on one side. Wanted to do a RX7 with ITB poking thru the bonnet like MadMike's but the quality of the resin cast is so average.
