08 town and country smelling gasoline
Occasionally in the morning after the van has sat overnight, when my wife starts the van, she smells gasoline in the cabin. Running the A/C makes the fumes worse. Any suggestions???

Re: 08 town and country smelling gasoline
Is it hard for her to start it meaning does it crank longer than usual until it starts? Could be the fuel rail that distributes fuel to each cylinder on top of the engine is leaking. This will leak pressure off the fuel system creating the long crank time. The fumes get sucked into the HVAC intake in front of the wipers. Get this fixed ASAP.

It is not hard to start. How do I check for a leak? Should I be concerned?

It's actually more often than just in the am. Is it more likely the fuel rail or injector o-rings?

Re: 08 town and country smelling gasoline
If it's not hard to start in the morning then there can't be a leak. A leak anywhere in the fuel delivery system will deplete the always present fuel pressure and make the van hard to start. It will crank an extra few seconds before it starts. This extra long cranking is the time period it takes for the pressure to build back up. I'm out of ideas.

If it isn't hard to start do you have any other ideas?

Re: 08 town and country smelling gasoline
Turn the ignition switch to "on/run" and depress the recirculation button on the HVAC panel before turning the key to start. That will close off the air intake in front of the wipers preventing outside air from entering the cabin.
When the engine is cold it runs rich meaning more fuel is supplied to the engine to keep it running. Is it ok after the first start of the day?

Re: 08 town and country smelling gasoline
Today it decided to sputter and stall twice while idling in park. Not sure if that changes any suggestions.

Re: 08 town and country smelling gasoline
Nevermind...my wife just totaled the van so I don't have to troubleshoot this anymore

Other than a sore back I think she's OK. She did get a brand-new Pacifica out of the deal so I think she's happy.
