My 2002 infiniti I35 only gets 10 MPG

I checked this with the car's computer system and manually. Is there anything I can do to increase fuel economy?

The check engine light isn't on. I am not a lead foot. I don't know when the last tune up was to be honest.

My dad, who I believed to be a car guy, lead me down to buy this car on little knowledge. Since I can't resell it for anywhere what i payed for it, I need to fix it myself.

Any theories?
