'66 VW Beetle Herbie style

Beside the Scirocco I wanted to build another kit. I always love the old beetle and I got already 10 kits in my stash. So it was time to build one. I start with the Tamiya 1966 VW Beetle. A very nice kit and I got a decalset from Hobby Design and some Fuchs Porsche wheels.

To choice the color was difficult. But because this wasn't going to be an exact replica, I decided to paint it Beige Grau VW. I know it's not the right color but I like it. That's why I called it Herbie style.

And I put the decals and bmf on the body.

Re: '66 VW Beetle Herbie style

I'm an air-cooled guy at heart so I'll be watching this with interest! I have the same Tamiya kit stashed away and recently received the new Revell '68 (not sure when I'll get around to building either of them). My first model was a secondhand 1/25 Revell Beetle (VW Cabriolet, Skips Fiesta Drive-In Series) that I'd like to dig out and rebuild.

I was aware of Hobby Design's Herbie decal set, but I think this is the first time I've seen pictures of them applied. The hood and decklid "gumballs" look too large per how they appeared on Herbie in the original movie. I noticed the Hobby Design literature doesn't show an "accurate" reference either; the "Nascar" Herbie from the Lindsay Lohan remake is pictured twice and the other two are non-film cars (not sure whats going on with the yellow Super Beetle with the - are those chickens?).

This is a non-issue for you of course! More of an observation for myself.

Re: '66 VW Beetle Herbie style

Time for a new update!

First I added the BMF and clearcoated the body. I had a few dusts in the final layer, so I decided to polish the body with Micromesh.

I kept the chassis stock, I only raised the from axels to lower the front a bit.

I couldn't decide what color I should paint the wheels, so I did both options.

I completed the interior and added the chrome parts on the body.

Completed pics will be posted soon!

Kris.
