2017 Ford GT

Finished this one up this weekend while listening/watching the 24 hour race w/the ACME crew.

Another one of my "silk purse" projects where I take a turd in a box and attempt to make it look like a model Subject matter trumps all, this is the only kit/model I know about of the new GT. Somehow I doubt we'll be seeing a Tamiya kit, but after today's race finish I think a scale version of the race car above this kiddie kit might happen.

This one was a test subject for learning the model; the model built for an article will have more detail than this now that I know where the best places are to spend time improving. The basic kit is shaped well but is pretty incomplete. Zero chassis detail, tiny bit of engine detail, 5 piece interior, and a body that has some epic mold lines, sink marks, and a bunch of missing cut lines.

Anyway, loved the white car Ford showed this year on the auto show circuit. I decided to add silver stripes, and after that I realized silver wheels looked better than gloss black, so the black ones I painted will be used w/another buildup.

With so little time spent on guts, it was 90% bodywork, which I like. I think it turned out pretty well, and really like how it looks. I'd love to drive the real one The article model will be yellow and have a raised rear spoiler and most of the grill areas opened up with mesh used instead, and I'll do a bit more work on the headlight units.

Looks good Bob! I like your color combo; it reminds me of the 60th Anniversary ZR-1 that I'm building. I also like the silver wheels.

I have a feeling Tamiya's next sports car is the new NSX.

Re: 2017 Ford GT

That is an excellent color scheme! The interior detailing looks great as well. It looks like you made the most of such a simple kit. If this was only the guinea pig I can't wait to see how the other GTs turn out.

I've been impressed by the Revell GT in the builds I have seen. I haven't studied the actual car much but, from casually comparing the model to the real deal, it looks like Revell nailed the proportions and shape of the body. Without a full detail kit in sight, I'd say the "SnapTite" is at least an excellent starting point for the ambitious scratch builder!

A lovely looking job, I'm sure we will see some kits of this but hopefully not just ott £ resin ones. Surely Revell will do one at some stage, especially after this weekend

Thanks!

The upper door cut lines in the roof, the rear bumper separation lines on each side, the engine cover separation lines on each side, and the front of the car in front of the windshield for the "hood", where I only did the two lines that are on top, would be impossible to do the lines on the inner edges of the radiator scoops.

Another proof for the saying that it is the modeler and not the kit that makes a beautiful model. Great work!
