1992 Lumina 3.1 possible transmission slip?

Hello everyone,
I have a 1992 Lumina euro 3.1 and I am having kind of an odd problem. After initial start up and driving when I come to a stop and then try to accelerate the car waits about 3-4 seconds or until I reach around 3000 rpm before jolting roughly into acceleration. What would cause that? I should add that there is no noticeable trouble or hesitation shifting when driving only when accelerating from a stop.

24 year old transmission.......seals could be starting to go......

Could be low on fluid as Tech II is implying, it could also be the start of a failing torque converter.

Thanks you guys for the reply. Fluid levels and color are good. I was leaning towards the torque converter going myself. Not sure on the condition of the filter though anyway that a bad tranny filter would produce these symptoms?

There's a number of things that can produce those symptoms.

Consider checking the trans fluid pressure at idle. That or change fluid 'n' filter, especially if it hasn't been done for ~50K miles or more.

You could have failing seals, you could have a failing trans pump, you could have a sticking pressure regulator valve. You could have some combination of problems.

I admit I don't understand how a torque converter could cause those symptoms, though.
