Somebody should have explained this to the GM assembly plants as this logic means they're all screwed up from mile zero...the engine gets rocked hard both ways before the torque struts are assembled (one of the very last chassis operations). There is simply no good way to access connections made at the rear of the engine in a production line situation.

Yeah but we are not concerned with the production line. They are not the ones having to replace the mounts after 100K miles of stress, torque, vibration, weather elements (hot and cold), oil contamination, ozone, etc. So why make it worse or more work for yourself. As you can see there is plenty of anecdotal proof removing the wishbone engine mounts and moving the engine forward is not necessary. But if you like doing it that way then more power to you and it is your choice.

I'm just passing on my learned experiences. Replacing the bottom engine/tranny mounts is a PITA. Been there and done that. BTDT!

Cool Re: RPM Wavering, surging/hesitation

I assume you mean this screen right?

I will have to take a good look at it tomorrow, but I have never really gotten it out before. Can you give me a more detailed explanation of where it is located. I can see in the picture it is by the MAF sensor is that correct? I just pulled this pic off another site.

Thats the one. Just remove your intake duct and make sure 1) its there and 2) its not bent creased or otherwise messed up. If you need to order a new one, ZZP has them for 1.00

Re: RPM Wavering, surging/hesitation

Well I guess unfortunately my screen is clean as a baby's bottom. Everything looked great inside my intake area, my MAF sensor was cleaner than I have ever seen on a 120,000 mile car.

For the time being the problem is only occurring intermittently, and I am about to give up. Do you guys have any other suggestions on what it may be? I'm pretty convinced it is not a misfire, or a spark issue...if anything I think i might have a leaky gasket somewhere in the midst of things.

Re: RPM Wavering, surging/hesitation

I have a 99 Grand Prix GT that had the same problem. When I needed acceleration, it would intermittently have hesitation. During hesitation, the RPM gauge would bounce. If I punched it, the car would go. This went on for 8 years, I tried all the tricks, spark plugs, wires, sensors, you name it. Anyway, it finally stopped when I replaced the computer. This made sense since I had the problem so long and nothing ever broke. Unfortunately, I am having other hesitation problems now that are not computer related, but at least that one is fixed!! Good luck.

Re: RPM Wavering, surging/hesitation

Did y'all ever figure out what it was?? I have a 2011 Malibu that is doing the same thing. My thermostat also went haywire one day like yours. I thought it might have something to do with the HVAC system since the problem only occurs in the heat of day. Idk. Thoughts?

Re: RPM Wavering, surging/hesitation

Should start your own thread, and be as detailed as possible, instead of jumping on a 7 year old thread, that had no real conclusion....
