Tamiya Castrol Tom's Supra

I started this one at the weekend, I didn't take many pictures at the start.
I prepped the body as normal and then gave it 6 coats of Citroen Polar white, wet sanded with 2500 grit and then polished with tamiya compound. I will get pics of the paint finish at the weekend when its bright.
I had heard bad things about applying the decals to these but i am finding it trouble free, I'm using very hot water and then plenty of microsol.

The decals still have to settle a bit with the microsol but I'm very happy with how they are going so far.

Believe it or not this was one of my first couple builds as I thought it was awesome due to it being on the gran turismo 2 cover. Sweet progress.

Re: Tamiya Castrol Tom's Supra

I had a bit more time at the weekend to get some more done.#
Started with the seat and dash(the dash still needs to be detailed fully)

I then went back to the body and painted the lights, on this model they come with a separate projector lense.
This is without

This is the projector placed over the headlamp with out being painted as per the instructions

And then this is the projector painted with a clear smoke and the outer rings painted chrome to look more like the real thing (you cane see the difference between left and right)

And the finished headlight with the outer edge of the clear lense painted black to give some depth

Re: Tamiya Castrol Tom's Supra

The tail lights went together easy also, again I painted outer edge of the lense to make it look more realistic

I then mocked up the chassis and roll cage before painting

Next I put the brakes and hubs together, I was unsure about the colour of the discs but I think they look well.

I painted the steering wheel with matt black outer and satin black centre

Re: Tamiya Castrol Tom's Supra

I made some more progress over the weekend. I used cig packet foil to simulate heatshield, its the first time i have tried it and i think it looks ok, I will weather it a bit to look more realistic.

I also finished the chassis, the heatshield looks better with the exhaust fitted.
I'm not sure why the prop shaft is yellow but I wanted to stick with the instructions

Just left onto the chassis to see how it sits

Added some detail to the dash

and nearly finished the interior
