Unplug the MAF sensor and try it. If it runs better with it unplugged, you need a MAF sensor.

Everything needs maintenance so don't give up so quick. When you get it fixed it might run forever.

this guy is right. i too am having stall issues with my 2000 model, but, once they are paid for, it is better and still cheaper to repair them, than to have another payment. i'm changing my crank position sensor this coming weekend.

Re: 02 Grand Prix Starts then Dies...

Hi All - If you are having problems with your Grand Prix starting, running for a few seconds and stopping, chances are the ground wire coming off the neg batt cable is corroded at the frame. I cleaned the ground at the frame, and whalla - fixed. I on and off had this problem for over a year, had two Pontiac mechanics look at it with no clue as to what was wrong with the car. Whhooo Whooo!

Re: 02 Grand Prix Starts then Dies...

I had this issue earlier this year. My car ran fine and 2 miles down the road it killed. Then a few hours later it would start back up and was able to get it home but then killed once we got in into the garage. I tried replacing a bunch of stuff too but turns out it was simply the Air Mass Flow sensor. It's not cheap but it's easy to replace but like the other guy said unplug it first and crank it over and if that's the real problem the car will run.

Re: 02 Grand Prix Starts then Dies...

I know this is an old thread but I thought I would post my fix...I also have a 2002 NA 3800 Grand Prix gt. I had all the same symptoms. Would start and immediately die if it started at all. If I unplugged the mass air flow sensor the car would start and race to 4000 rpm and stay there. What I found and from what I understand to be a common problem is the plastic upper intake...right behind the throttle body the egr tube runs up from the bottom and eventually deteriorates the intake manifold burning a hole through it. I found quarter size holes just under the wiring harness and evap and fuel lines. Replace the upper intake if you find this and your problem is solved!!
