I found some cut wiring under the hood...

This is a pic under the hood of my 2002 Pontiac Grand Prix GT. It shows the two wire(s) that are cut above the brake fluid reservoir. The wire(s) look like they are going into that black "egg" looking thing.

Can anyone tell me what that is? Thank you in advance.

Is your car behaving strangely since this happened? Does it even run? Have you pissed anyone off lately who knows about cars? Right now I'm not sure what that black egg shaped thing is either, but anything strange your car is doing because of the cut wire may help me figure it out... that wire does look like it was intentionally cut.
