Transmission hard shifting and whine

Evrytime I drive the car for a while and then head into town the car starts to shift hard and has a loud whine. It's been happens for about 8 months and is starting to get worse. Had the the transmission l
Flushed and filter changed and seems to have made it worse. I could live with the whine. Wanting to know what it is and how much it would cost to get fixed?

Re: Transmission hard shifting and whine

Flushing the transmission was most likely a death sentence to it. Start looking around junkyards for one now.

Re: Transmission hard shifting and whine

I read online that it can be the pressure control solenoid and said it can be changed through the side panel of the transmission. Is this true and possible to do without pulling the the trans out?

Re: Transmission hard shifting and whine

It might be true, but I highly doubt it knowing the notoriety of these transmissions for failure.

I'm trying to go the cheapest way to fix it cause the the car 186,000 miles and the transmission is all oringal. I can't afford to get a new or get a new transmission.

I don't think you are going to have a choice in the matter.

Re: Transmission hard shifting and whine

Junkyard trans could probably be had for $300 or so. If you have the ability to do it yourself then the rest is just time, some fluid, and a new filter and gasket kit.

Re: Transmission hard shifting and whine

It depends on the rates. Most shops charge anywhere from $65 to $100+ an hour.

Book time on a tranny R&R is around 7 hours. That would be $450 tp $700+ on top of the cost of the transmission, fluid, filter etc.
