Thank you so much Roger. Did any other F1's come with that steering wheel or was it just made especially for #075? I even don't mind the wooden gear knob and hand brake. I know it's going a while back now, but how did the colour look in person?

Yes, I think that paint mixture was exclusive to that car for that customer. McLaren have been known to do this with other colors and certain options as well. This is not to say that someone else could not come along and have McLaren's paint experts create a very similar color - that became the case of what occurred with chassis 073 and then 038. Dan apparently claimed that the color mixture he ended up with on his car was better and more vibrant than the version on 075. According to someone at the McLaren dealership near his home in Scottsdale he also claims his paint was the inspiration for present day "Volcano Orange" - I think that's open to some discussion, if not debate.

It would be very interesting to get all three F1s together for a paint comparison and maybe bring along a P1 in Volcano Orange to compare that too just to see how similar they are, in fact.

Another question, I believe I saw another post of yours mentioning #075 resides with Mansour now. However that post was back in 2011. Is this still the case?

As far as I know yes - confirmed from an impeccable source within the company as recent as late 2014. I wouldn't expect it to change hands again soon unless it ends up as an actual part of McLaren's collection. They have XP5 though and so they don't really need an additional example of the road car. Plus with Mansour owning it, I believe it is available to them whenever they should need it.

Thanks for the answers. I Googled the wine and you can definitely see the inspiration for the color. In pictures posted last year of #038 doing a McLaren run in Greenwich, you can definitely see the vibrancy of the color. Perhaps a bit too vibrant for me. I prefer Yquem better.

Regarding the unique steering wheel, was it especially made for #075 or does it appear in any other road cars? Just wondering if you could clear another thing up for me. Is #075 the very last F1 period, or just the last F1 road car made? If it's the first of those two, I guess it would be reasonable to assume it would be one of the most valuable of the F1s.

I've not seen a steering wheel like that fitted to any other F1 road car - I believe it to be unique, but have not seen all the cars.

075 was the very last F1 produced - of any variant - new from the factory. It was finished May 25th, 1998.

It wears this on one of the chassis spars:



Edit - actually not sure it is on a chassis spar - may be on a different part of the car given the weave that's visible there, but its a low res photo so kind of hard to tell. M.S.O would know and could also probably supply confirmation on the uniqueness of that steering wheel?

Is this why there seem to not be any other F1s in the same color as #029?
