95 jeep cherokee sport stuck in 4lo

Ive been having isues with my95 jeep cheroke sport stuck in 4lo. I was told to change the transfer case sensor/switch. Is this accurate?

More information would be helpful. In what conditions is it stuck, and does it eventually come out?

Reason I ask is that the sensor switch doesn't do anything for the actual shift, the shift is mechanically controlled. If I recall correctly the sensor is only for the indication on the dash.
