Smile 2002 impala battery drain

Car has a drain that kills battery over night. Fuse for cluster/BCM in driver side fuse panel gets rid of drain. Didn't know if there is a common issue for the car to look for . Thanks

Re: 2002 impala battery drain

Is this the 10A fuse? If so, what is the current draw in standby mode? If if is over 50 mA there may be a problem. However, initial current after shut-down and for about five minutes afterward can be higher. It should drop to 35-50 mA after that.

Yes it is the 10 amp fuse, it draws 1.64 amps all the time and kills battery in a few hours(overnite)

Re: 2002 impala battery drain

I checked all the normal stuff < glove box , truck and hood lights to make sure they are going off. Unplugged the truck latch and made sure the interior lights cycled out(also that the cluster lights shut down.

Re: 2002 impala battery drain

Bad diode in the alternator can cause battery drain but still provide proper charging voltage during testing.

Re: 2002 impala battery drain

This may sound dumb but start unplugging items in that circuit. If the drain stops watching a VOM for indication then the part you unplugged is at fault. Process of elimination.
