2006 Ford Focus Won't Start - PATS Flashing/Dashes where mileage should be

Evening,
My sons 2006 Ford Focus had initially displayed check engine light. ODB reader showed the following codes: P0491 (Air Injection System Malfunction) and P0410 (Secondary Air Injection System (Bank 1).
Following a mechanics DIY on youtube, I grounded to the battery the air pump (i believe that's what its called) to battery ground. As he showed in the video, if the pump was good it would turn on, if key was in the ON position. As we did this procedure, we heard an audible click and that was it. We stopped the procedure, believing we possibly had a bad pump.
We then attempted to start the car......AND NOTHING!!

With key in the ON position, dashboard lights illuminate, ATS light flashes, and the mileage shows '- - - -'. YouTube videos says it's a bad battery ground. It didn't fix the issue.
I've checked ALL RELAYS and FUSES (under hood and passenger compartment)

Any help/suggestion would be appreciated
