Seat Issue on 1998

I just got home from getting my 1998 Park Avenue (15 hour round trip, boy am I going to sleep good tonight). Sure is an upgrade from my 1997 Lesabre. I really like it.

Seat issue.
I know this is a common problem. Both seats are electric. Everything works on both seats except the bottom (where you sit) on the drivers side. It goes foreword and back, but does not tilt or go up/down.

It's in a tilt foreword position.

1. Is there a way to manually tilt it straight?
2. How do you fix it so it works?
3. Anything else I need to know about the issue?

Thank you very much,
Chris.

Re: Seat Issue on 1998

As I have done it, yes. but not easily. You can force it to a permanent comfortable position by turning the bad motor worm gear manually bit by bit.
.. Hopefully its a simple wire or electrics, switch, wire, etc. However, if the motor has quit the whole assembly is easier to replace from a breaker yard than just a motor. The assembly of motors and worm gears are all riveted together as a unit.

Re: Seat Issue on 1998

Yes I agree......you can check the motor(tilt), by disconnecting the harness to it and attaching a test light, now operate the tilt function, of the switch, in both directions......the test light should light in both directions.....if it does bad motor....if it doesn't, possible bad switch.....

If bad switch, rig up a harness or leads to the motor and apply battery power to move the tilt of the seat.....

If a bad motor, can rig up a flexible extension(usually 1/4") and use a socket(hex or torx) that will grasp the end of the square cable(disconnect cable from motor...just squeeze and pull).....then attach drill to extension and move the seat.....

PS....yes, the P/A was a nice riding car, and was well equipped......the Lucerne that replaced the LeSabre and P/A, doesn't come close to the ride this car had....
