Re: Ferrari 250LM 1965 Le Mans Winner - MFH 1/24

Thanks for the photos George, I'm loving building mine and I'm finding the same faults as you've found.
It's a great kit but I've spent many hours cleaning, filling and test fitting the engine/gearbox/chassis together to get a set up I'm happy with.

I'll keep watching!

Cheers,
Lee.

Re: Ferrari 250LM 1965 Le Mans Winner - MFH 1/24

Back to boring updates, on my LM...

This time I try to make a movable rear hood so the fitment is important. But the kit have another opinion. So, I start to fight it

Before that, I need to found a solution, with the rear hood moving mechanism. Hiro, gives a panel on the roof which attached, after putting the hood on place. But, this panel never exist in any 250, so I made a mechanism like watch 's bracelet.

Then the real modelling pain, begins. Fist of all, I extend the rear-down end of the hood...

Then, I add a little plastic rod in front end...

Then many stages of test fitting, puttying and sanding follows, until I have an acceptable result. In many cases, the plastic parts, collapsed when I sanded them, and I begun the whole story from the beginning! So this, take me almost 2 months!!

Then, I discover that the right pylon, under the hoods aerodynamic cover, didn't exist at all... See ref photo...

So I add, one from an evergreen sheet.

The left one, which exist...

Some more test fitting follows. The whole thing starting to take shape...

After, a long journey on sanding and priming land...

The paint process follows.

Hope you like it...

George

Re: Ferrari 250LM 1965 Le Mans Winner - MFH 1/24

A little update with some painting progress...

ZP's Rosso corsa...

And then, the kit decals...

A NART decal, on rear hood missing, so I added from spares.

The clear coat stage, will follow...

George

Re: Ferrari 250LM 1965 Le Mans Winner - MFH 1/24

Slow progress but finally I have something to show...
Firstly, I cut the vacformed windows and make the side ones from clear paper.

Back to the body, as we told before, I put the rear decal upside down. What a silly mistake, especially because I already made four 250 LMs and Ps and I have all of them neat to my bench. Just bad time. The bad think on this is before I notice the mistake I already put a wet clearcoat on it

So, I put two white circles on it, a clearcoat on it and then sanding them...

Finally another No21 putted on place and the usual clearcoat process followed.

This is for now. Hope I finished it, before my vacation starts...

Looking good George, I've stolen your watch pin idea for the engine cover but that's a long way off as I intend to open the doors. Will watch the rest of your build with interest.
Cheers, Lee.

Re: Ferrari 250LM 1965 Le Mans Winner - MFH 1/24

So, after months and months of work, this is the final update for my 250 LM.

Started with the reservoirs...

The inside part of the rear hood painted with brush and detailed with cables for rear lights...

The body parts have a lot of little details, so the finalization of them, takes time.

Also the main body painted from inside and detailed with the door parts.

So, its time to close the body panels with the chassis. A real pain to do, because of the poor general fitting, as I discovered during this build, and because all parts are so close with minimum space between them. Before that , I made and put on the seats a helmet and some covers.

Next time I publish the finished model with the hood open and all final details on the body.

Thank you for your support during this long build...

George
