Ikea display case

Just found this display case with led light at IKEA!
It's called "Synas" (which is swedish for "be seen") and costs approx 40 usd in Sweden. 24*24*24 cm.

Re: Ikea display case

Now that looks good! Is it glass or acrylic? Looks to be dust proof too? Is the top removable? It looks like the top has a return edge which should keep the dust out!

Haha...just found the specs in the catalog, so questions answered!

Re: Ikea display case

Valid questions though. It's all acrylic. Top lid is removable and side walls are mounted by sliding them together and then fitting them in the base. Seems totally dust free.

Re: Ikea display case

Then it will be a question about how wide they are, right :-)

Re: Ikea display case

I went to Ikea store today to have a closer look at this display box. I measured the internal dimensions, the display area is exactly 22x22 cm. I use Tamiya cutting mat with 1 cm grid lines, so I tried to put several 1/24 car models on it to see if they fit within 22x22 cm area. Almost all fit in nicely, actually you can put 2 side by side in case they are parallel to side walls. In case the model is longer (1/25 monster truck), it fits if placed diagonally. I also turned the box upside down and I am pretty sure you can use it this way, too. Then the light is coming from above and the you are free to use the bottom of the display box the way you like (simulate the tarmac surface, garage floor, etc)

Re: Ikea display case

After picking one up today, i tried to fit normal 1/18 scale with no luck. Looks like 2 1/43 scales is a perfect match. Would look great as a diorama..hm..might see what I can come up with
