Fujimi McLaren F1 Street
I guess posting this here will force my hand so I won't get distracted from finishing this one! It's been close to the top of my "build it now" stack, and w/Fujimi's announcements yesterday of a couple shorttail racers, I decided to get this one done to learn the kit, in anticipation of soon building the #24 Gulf car and also an F1 LM variant. Unless Aoshima is holding back...
![]() I kind of like the pure white boxart car, but the stock F1 wheels are ridiculously boring. Found a set of Tamiya 360 Modena wheels/tires, and to my eyes they look fantastic on the F1. Beauty or blasphemy? Who cares, I like it!

Re: Fujimi McLaren F1 Street

Re: Fujimi McLaren F1 Street
The only GTR wheels that I'd like on it would be the NISMO wheels from the Tamiya R34 upgrade set, but they look so much like the wheels on the F1 LM that I want something different. I want this one to keep a fairly stock appearance; more aggressive than stock but not overtly aggressive.

Re: Fujimi McLaren F1 Street
I fooled myself thinking the body was pretty clean with very few mold lines; the ones on the body side are cleverly hidden.
The doors and door fit are another matter; the doors each have some significant sink marks, a few that are difficult to access. The door skins are also a bit warped, I plan to glue the doors shut as I'm not going to spend 40 hours engineering in-scale door hinges that work and allow the doors to fit perfectly open or closed. It's a gimmick that's not worth my time in 1/24 scale. There are a couple of door frame inserts that have to be attached, and to those a couple pieces of the front fender, that will require filling to smooth out. A bit more work than expected and I'm not quite sure why they had to make the small fender piece separate, but shouldn't be too bad. ![]() ![]() ![]()

Re: Fujimi McLaren F1 Street
The paint and color looks great! I am following your build along. I suspect they made that little piece by the door separate so you can attach the door in the "closed" position. While you or I or anyone on AF is capable if ignoring the kit supplied destructions, if you glued the inner panel to the door like they say to do, I bet it's impossible to slot the door in with that little piece in place.
