camshaft synchronizer 2001 ford taurus SES vulcan 3.0l Ohv v6 (non flex)
Read a lot of posts on this. Saw way too old pic on setting it at 38 degrees. Pulled the synchronizer without putting it at tdc, my screw up. been having problems ever since. before proceeding any farther to re-align; to clarify, when tdc on number one cylinder is it tdc on number 5 cylinder would help instead of reaching around the engine while turning the crank. Also, is the 38 degrees shown in the pic is where the tab on the sync is supposed to be set when installed? I cant tell 38 degrees from 35 or 40. just looking for a little help. After replacing car ran fine but won't start unless it cools down for a while and repeats. Im sure the fuel is not in sync, No problems with the car before replacing changed it due to the chirping noise. checked fuel pressure, electrical and cooling system no problems there. still have the alignment tool. Thanks in advance for any help.

Played with it a for awhile and finally have it set. If I ever have to do it again I'll make sure its on tdc before removal.

Glad to hear you got it figured out. Besides starting with cylinder #1 at TDC, are there any other tricks you discovered?

Re: camshaft synchronizer 2001 ford taurus SES vulcan 3.0l Ohv v6 (non flex)
Rod, not any tricks. Brought #1 cylinder on top dead center (TDC), had the cam shaft sensor off so I could see the tab that aligns with the window on the synchronizer. I apparently put it back the way I took it off. tab was about 1 o'clock from engine center which would give me the 38 degrees timing according to the manual. I did notice that the tab was not aligned with the window at TDC so I rotated the engine until it aligned. When it aligned, it aligned when the piston was going on it's down stroke after TDC so timing was off. I loosened the hold down bolt and used the ford tool to correct it. You have some play on the synchronizer housing to align it. The fuel pump issue I'm having now is another problem. Should of posted it here but went with a new post.
