S60...the next generation of Volvo

OK, so many of us understand that old-volvo stands for the "vehicle of low-velocity organization". However, many of us know that Volvo is making an attempt to bury that reputation with new autos like the C70 coupe/cabrio. Earier today I saw an M5 parked side by side with a new black S60. Of course the M5 excels in all performance aspects, even when compared to specific sports coupes, but the intrigue from the S60 forced me to pause and take a second look and realize that it is a wondrous car built from the ground up. Never mind the fact that it is front-wheel drive (many are these days), and just realize the fact that the M5 is a strict performance sedan while the S60 is a moderate family ass-hauler. Perhaps the BMW destroys the Volvo by numbers, but the S60 stands at a fresh standpoint and cannot be excluded from comparison, regardless of the M5's insane statistics. The M5 costs a few 5-digits more, but the S60 screams 'revival' of the exclusive safety touring car industry, and this aspect alone will force one to decide, which is the best machine for me? Many will state M5 without a doubt.... but don't forget to think about it's opposition

You might reconsider the Volvo after referring to Volvospy.com

I was looking at buying the 5 speed Turbo S60, then read-up on it. A couple of potentially huge issues (such as strange transmission behavior from the Geartronic) convinced me to stick with our 99 Maxima SE 5 speed and buy a C320 Mercedes. The latter's Geartronic has been flawless.

The good news is that Volvo is at least starting to make some interesting machines, but it seems they still have a long way to go in ironing out the bugs.

Glad I have gone with the 320 and kept our Maxima.

compared to the C320 and S60...... i'd go with a 330ci... much better performance, it's more of an enthusiast's car, the benz is too old person cruisinish and the S60 is too familyish but they're both lookin more sporty than ever

I'd have to agree about the BMW. Nice rig with a great engine.

Prior to the Benz, my wife had a 318 which was an incredible dog. She described it as "a sheep in wolf's clothing". While the engine was anemic, it sure did handle beautifully.

The Beamer line-up remains among our favourites, but the 320 styling won out for this round of buying.

gang$tarr, you are not the only one with that same opinion. In fact, if I polled every man, woman, and child I personally know right now, they would all choose the 330ci. But this is precisely why I wouldn't get the bimmer. I just wouldn't forgive myself if I ever bought a car that everyone and their mom already has, or will get one soon enough. BMW does make a awesome car, especially now with the elimination of the 4-cylinder motors in the States. I rented one recently and it blew me away. However, it still felt odd, since my natural stance in the auto industry is to root for the underdogs. But hey, thats just me. If you want to own a car that's become a symbol of trend, thats your call. Just don't forget, uniqueness is still a good quality.

I see this looks like more like a comparison between the S60, 330, and C320, hmm where is the IS300??
Didn´t some magazines put in their comparison the IS300 even ahead of the 330?? I think yes. And is not a car everyone drives!
Well, I still don´t understand why the S60 doesn´t has such attention and sales as the bimmer and other, I don´t think that is because of is lack of performance compared to the competition cause is not that important in that kind of car, I mean it´s important but it´s not number 1, right? So what´s wrong with it? Even the styling is better than some of the others...
And I don´t think the new C class is a car that looks it was built to be driven by older people, it has a fresh young styling, an yet it looks elegant, the Benz it´s my pick.
