The intake i am going to be able to get air in, i have found a ton of cheap or free mods that i can get my intake to be pretty good. And if not, i'd buy a lid pretty soon down the road. Exhaust, are you talking things like the cats or headers, or muffler? B/c i got the cut-out so that should free it up a bit. The cats i am not gonna ditch, i wanna try to keep the car close to emission legal as i can, and the headers are something i would change in the future (as a good set is like $1100, for longtubes that is). A BIG question i am having is the clutch, with conservative driving it won't get worn out especially fast with the extra power, should it? Plus if i am gonna get the same amount of hp (almost) with small mods, thats still more hp so the clutch will get the same wear, right? The exhaust with the cut-out and most of the intake mods mentioned in this thread.....shouldn't that be adequate flow?
For minor bolt-ons what do you suggest (all in all keeping me under $1k). B/c if i get those now a bigger upgrade like a cam or something won't come will down the road a long ways. If i get a bigger upgrade now, i can get stuff like a lid and filter as well as things like that as i go on in the next few months (amassing $200 isn't as hard as $1000).

Re: Good HP gains for cheap for LS1's?
Hey man, cody here,I've got some advice for you,I have a 98 Camaro Z28 SS,had the ls1 and original 6 speed, this doesn't pertain to you as I started with doing a full corvette c5 ls6 motor swap and new Borg Warner Tremec level 6 tranny, but after all that was said and done(this is where my advice comes in for you)I started with the little things man,got myself a full spec stage 3 clutch kit and put it in,then got 4.10 gears and put them in,then i got me some Pacesetter long tubes with a full flowmaster exhaust kit (no cats)but there's a few things others forgot about that can also make a little difference on take off, other then the clutch kit and gears (which btw I have both drag slicks AND street tires and with my 4.10 gears my car is my dd AND drag car, also a stop light sleeper so they don't affeCT my daily street driving)they forgot to tell you about the one piece aluminum driveshaft, that was the 3rd thing I had done before I got my full drilled and slotted brake kit then having my full chassis and suspention custom rebuilt, then I started having some custom motor mounts and brackets and tranny mounts and brackets made and installed,THEN I started on the cams, heads, bore, injectors, pullys, and stuff, yeah all of that stuff is done and it sounds like it got done quick but it didnt,it's taken a little over a year to get all of that done, but I'm STILL not even fully done with my car,I have a nitrous button installed in my ashtray and I don't even have a nitrous kit yet,I put it in to remind me when I get everything else completely done it's the last thing I need to do,you need to listen to these people man there trying to help you out and get as much bang for your buck as possible and right now you need to start out slow and get the things that are going to keep your car running in tip top shape before you go throwing something that's gonna have your motor quiting on you in a couple of months because you didn't do all of the necessary little things to suppor the big things first,I've been wanting to supercharge my camaro since I got it but if I'd have thrown a blower on my car with none of the supporting little mods or a tune, there's no telling what could have happened first,so I've spent the last year building up my car to support the blower and a 200 shot of nitrous (purge that is,not screwing up my hard worked on motor haha)but point is man start out with
-tires -get a tick adjustable master cylinder (as I'm sure yours is still the stock junk and do the drill mod to the master to slave braided hose line,it's got a restrictor so you can't slam the gears) -a clutch kit(which means replacing your slave, throwout, etc and get a remote bleeder) Right there your already sitting at about $1k bit you will feel a pretty noticeable difference Then start on the gearing -then go for that driveshaft -get yourself some new brakes -then get into your suspension and parts that will hold up to what your about to throw at it all Then start tossing that dough at the motor,by the time your done with all that you'll be blowing stock c7's away N/A Then get yourself a nice procharger supercharger kit and if your feeling ballsy still after that go grab a nitrous kit,man you won't even know how to handle that car after your done with it,just listen and learn from the people on here,we aren't going to steer you wrong, all the best things in life are acquired by patience Peace, cody |
