1998 gmc k1500 not starting
I have a 98 gmc k 1500 350 5.7 . Was having an issue with the truck bucking it would die very briefly thought maybe bad gas. Added treatment and few days later it was doing the same this time back fire check engine lite came on checked code mass air and cam position sensor. I pulled cap and when I was about to take rotor button out I noticed play I could actually push down on it. I pulled distributor and confirmed the play I replaced new complete distributor and yes I forgot to mark position so line tdc #1 compression stroke installed distributor timing was off. But running rough so I re adjusted timing now it just cranks I have played with the timing alot so I tested the coil had some strange ohm readings ( high quality meter) and have voltage 12 vdc at coil and module replaced coil today still same thing I have fuel and 60 psi of fuel pressure and it holds with key off and it's not the pass lock security does not flash. Fuel pressure regulator can't be leaking. I am lost have no idea what else it could be has to be something stupid I'm over looking. Any help would be great trying to keep it out of a shop

Re: 1998 gmc k1500 not starting
You need to find tdc and get the dist. in properly to eliminate a timing issue, first.

Re: 1998 gmc k1500 not starting
Thanks for replying I did that by pulling spark plug #1 turned motor till compression stroke pushed my finger off. And checked timing mark on balancer. I pulled distributor lined pump shaft and turn rotor to line up with the 8 on the cast which points at the number 1 cylinder. Reinstalled The motor turns but does turnover if my timing was off wouldn't it still try to fire cylinders?

Check to make sure the rotor is turning. Any spark at the plugs?

Re: 1998 gmc k1500 not starting
This is what i have done. I checked spark from coil to plug bypass distributor. No spark checked signal from ICM nothing pulled plug on ICM to check crank sensor cranked motor got the code for crank sensor . Plugged ICm back in reset/ erased codes cranked motor crank sensor code did not come in which tells me crank sensor must be working I replaced ICM the coil and ddistributor where replaced couple days before received code p1351 still no spark I'm lost now have no idea what else it could be i have checked everything Ican think of even checked grounds I have power to ICM power to coil but no signal from ICM to coil that'swhy I have no spark. Any thing I'm missing its got to be some stupid that I'm over looking at this point timing doesn't matter I have plug wire on coil with plug grounded and it a brand new plug I'm going to check the crank sensor after work by piercing wire and turning crank by hand to see if get 0vdc off and 5 vdc on which will tell me its sending signal out about ready to pull the motor and go all old school carb and vacuum advance stuff that worked or dynamite

Re: 1998 gmc k1500 not starting
If youcould get a basic scanner on it you could see an rpm signal being recieved by the pcm, or not. Check fuses also.
