rear gate is staying locked while open

I have a 2004 pacifica and the rear gate is open but the latch is locked closed, while its up. I tried to unlock with over head switch, it does nothing and I also tried unlocking with automatic lock on driver door. How do I get the gate unlocked because now its stuck open??? Please help

Try sticking a screwdriver into the closed latch hook and prying slightly downward while operating the latch release. Squirt some lube in there when done and exercise the latch several times. Sounds like a worn latch.
