sand in My Starter

Took my truck (2009 F 150 Lariat 4x4 Screw) on the beach while on vacation at the OBX. A day or two later starter began to act up (bendix sticking). Changed it out a couple days ago and found it had a lot of sand in it.

Anyone else ever have this happen?
