Grounded Starter

I forgot to disconnect my battery to replace my starter. When removing old starter had positive wire removed starter grounded against frame sparked briefly. After disconnecting battery I replaced the starter with a new one now of course it does not start. Looked at fuses jiggled wires tightened battery connections and it started tried it a few times and it would start. Drove it around a parked it tried again now it does not start. Any suggestions would be appreciated
