back after months...van has been checked by 2 ford dealer mechanics here in VA ,nothing.
Now it`s the opposite ...temp outside 90 or higher ,drive it for 8 -10 ml ,park and come back after 15 min. from shopping , try to start ,won`t idle , stalls every time I try , after 6-8 attempts ,back to normal ,all together 3 times , last time was sooo bad , had a real problem to make it back home, at every stop ,it stalled . Back to the shop ....they drove several times , no show ...it`s fine , don`t know what to do ???? |

Re: 2001 Windstar rough idle after warm up
Are there any codes? Have you cleaned your IAC valve? How do the fuel injectors look? It sounds like your engine is getting flooded. That's fine for a cold start but could cause your symptoms when hot.

eBait wonder ($24.00) fail with codes at 300 miles, and a Motorcraft with 160K miles idle very rough when cool with no codes...Changing a Windstar plugs, wires, and/or coil is a fun experience. Everyone should do it at least twice... |

Re: 2001 Windstar rough idle after warm up
Yeah I agree - doubtful that the coil is bad although if you want, take it off and look for tiny cracks on the bottom. That's how it fails.
Get it scanned for codes and let us know if anything comes up. And remove the IAC (idle air control) valve off the top and make sure it's moving freely as well. If it's gummed up or dirty that would certainly affect the idle. It's so easy to being right on top that I'd do that regardless. What other work has been done? Have the EGR ports been cleared? do the IMRC actuators move freely? Check those little white clips and make sure they're intact. If none of this does anything, it could end up just being engine wear, although I have to say that, when maintained, these engines go quite a long way without any wear issues. |
