2 teflon seals at steering rack

hi all,
replacing the steering gear/ rack on my '02. ford gave me 2 different sized white teflon o-rings for the hose connections, but i'm finding i need 2 of the bigger sized ones. both of the worn o-rings look the same size.

anyone know if this is correct or do i stretch the smaller one on which side?

tia,
parker

Re: 2 teflon seals at steering rack

I think you are correct. I believe I remember 4 O-rings coming with my replacement racks. The smaller ones go on the inner location between tube and movable fitting ... I've never replaced. If you are concerned about the outer-most fitting ... I've used a wrap or two of Teflon tape instead of the O-ring and its done just fine.

just in follow up, the p/n mentioned in the service manual is 388898-s. that is the larger of the 2 o-rings. the small one is 388897-s. i have a feeling that is for the other end of the pressure hose that connects at the pump.
