Hello,
I have 2000 S10 SFI 2.2L 4Cy...It was running fine, and my wife was on her way home from work and it shut off on her going down the road. No sputtering or anything, it just shut off. I got a tester on it, and I'm getting no codes. I asked a couple of people, and several suggested it was the ICM, but no go after replacing. My next thought is the coil packs or even the fuel pump relay considering I dont hear the pump kick on now. I'm just trying to get some ideas on what to try? Thanks |

Do some testing before throwing parts at it. Does it have spark to all cylinders? Compression on all cylinders? Fuel pump 2 second prime up when key on or starter bump? Proper fuel pressure when cranking? Injector pulse when cranking? Will it start with carb CLEANER SHOT INTO INTAKE?

Re: 2000 Chevy S10 Turns over, but wont run
Have you heard it in the past? Are you familiar with the sound it makes? Some times it take 2 people. One to listen to the gas filler neck with the cap removed and another person to turn on the key,not starting engine. The pump doesn't run long. HTH

Re: 2000 Chevy S10 Turns over, but wont run
Yea, I've head it in the past, a buzzing nose for a couple seconds, and my fuel gauge would show how much gas is in the tank...but I'm not hearing the pump kick in, and the fuel gauge doesnt move. I put a computer code reader on it when all this for started, but It didnt return any codes, which I found odd. I figured id at least get a code if something was wrong?

That is why you have to run basic no start test. ![]() Get a fuel pressure gauge on it. If no pressure cranking on start or key on 2 second prime. Check that end out.

May be true or not true. My brother in law used to claim his check engine light would come on and blink one time when girl fried was mad and blink twice when wife was real mad and he would get a trouble code saying double trouble.

NO No on starting fluid.only use carb cleaner for starting aid.Or run the risk of blowing the dip stick threw the hood and valve covers off and besides it could throw a few tining at your head.

Re: 2000 Chevy S10 Turns over, but wont run
I second the no,no on starting fluid! You'll rue the day you ever heard of starting fluid. That should only be used on high compression engines, like diesels and then only by professionals. Get an inexpensive fuel pressure guage kit at Harbor Freight. Or maybe from a free tool loaner program like at Pep Boys.
